The Basics:The Cosmic Tarot is pretty standard; not a whole lot of deviation from any other RWS based deck. The deck is tarot sized and the card stock is exactly what you'd expect from a mass market deck I find it easy and smooth to shuffle. Suits are named traditionally: Wands, Cups, Swords, & Pentacles. Court cards feature Princesses as Pages and Princes for Knights, but that is not uncommon and I don't think it would be much of a distraction for newbie readers. The Little White Book (lwb) is also pretty standard. There's a very brief introduction on the "ancient history" of the tarot which I would recommend mostly disregarding in favor of some actual research and history, but that's neither here nor there. It goes on to give a quick breakdown of tarot structure, then jumps into card descriptions and meanings. Each card scene is given a short description followed by about 10 key words or phrases. Some LWBs designate keywords by upright vs reversed cards. This one doesn't, but it does provide enough keywords to fully embrace the duality of each card, making it easy to read reversals even if you're not great at it intuitively.
My opinion overallThe Cosmic Tarot is a welcome addition to my collection. I may have originally fallen in love with the Magician, High Priestess and the Star, but the whole deck is wonderfully illustrated and easy to pick up and read intuitively and mindlessly shuffling is easy with this cardstock. My only complaint is that I didn't pick it up sooner. And I can already see myself my these borders and possibly glitzing it out (that Empress deserves it!).
It's an easily obtainable and relatively inexpensive deck, making it super accessible for newcomers to the tarot community, but for those with more experience, I can easily see this turning into a trusted workhorse deck for client readings. It'll definitely be in my rotation, so if you'd like me to use this deck in a reading for YOU, leave a request in your order notes.
